A veneer is made of ceramic, and applied to only the front of the tooth to correct things like discolouration, minor misalignment, small or large teeth and more. Another way to think of a veneer is like a partial crown, but much less invasive.
Veneers are most commonly decided upon for cosmetic purposes. If you’re interested in veneers, you’ll make an appointment with our practice where we will examine your teeth and mouth. We’ll take x-rays and determine if veneers are right for you. If you’d like to move forward, we’ll take moulds of your teeth so that the perfect shape and size veneer can be created.
Once we receive your veneer, we’ll invite you back to the practice for placement. You’ll be able to check the size and see how your veneer looks before it’s ever cemented onto your teeth.
You might be a candidate for a veneer(s) if your teeth are healthy and your bite can support a crown. When you visit us, we’ll let you know which treatment can best achieve your desired outcome.
Frequently Asked Questions
Wondering if veneers are right for you? Or do you have questions about the treatment? We’ve compiled some of the questions we hear most often for you below. If you have additional concerns, we encourage you to contact our practice so that we can assist you.
How long will my veneers last?
With the advanced materials and techniques involved in modern veneers, it’s not uncommon for them to last a decade or longer—some even last for life!
How do I care for veneers?
You care for veneers exactly as you would your natural teeth. It’s important to maintain proper brushing and flossing habits to ensure the health of your teeth and gums. And most importantly, visit us for your regular appointments.
Can a veneer break or chip?
Just as your natural teeth can break and chip, so can a veneer if not properly cared for or if the tooth experiences an accident or bites something hard. If your veneer chips, schedule an appointment with us and we can correct it.
Will veneers look like my natural teeth?
Absolutely. We’ll custom match your veneers to the look and feel of your natural teeth. You’ll even be able to colour match your new veneers so that they’ll be the same shade as your other teeth.
How do veneers stay on my teeth?
Veneers are cemented onto your natural tooth so that they stay in place and do not move. Your veneers will look and function just as your natural teeth—you won’t notice a change at all in eating or speaking.
Can veneers be removed?
A veneer can be removed or replaced if need be. However, when a veneer is removed, as your natural tooth underneath has been shaved slightly, you will notice a size difference compared to your other non-veneer teeth.
